Say Yes to the Side Quest: Fish Dunn Falls Portland Jamaica
I’m learning that some of the best adventures begin with a very simple question:
“You wanna come?”
A friend invited me to Fish Dunn Falls in Portland with a group of people I didn’t really know, and I’ll admit, the fact that I wouldn’t know most of the people there gave me a tiny bit of pause.
But instead of overthinking it, I decided to just say yes.
And I’m very glad I did.
River Days > Everything
Fish Dunn Falls was the perfect setting for a little escape from the usual routine. Tucked away in Portland, Jamaica, it’s the kind of place that makes you slow down and enjoy being outside.
There was something so refreshing about spending the day in the river — cool water, lush greenery, good company and absolutely no need to be checking the clock every five minutes and what was even better it was overcast so the sun wasn't draining all our energy.
Fish Dunn Falls is giving Jamaica’s version of a secret garden — minus the fancy gatekeeping. Tucked away in the lush hills of Portland, this little slice of paradise is all greenery, cool mountain air and the very therapeutic sound of water doing what water does best: rushing dramatically over rocks. The natural pools are perfect for a refreshing dip, while the surrounding forest makes the whole place feel wonderfully tucked away from the rest of the world. And the best part? Entry is only J$500 per person, so your wallet gets to enjoy the adventure too.
And, of course, the real highlight was getting to enjoy it with everyone! What started with me wondering “Who exactly am I going to be hanging out with?” quickly turned into laughing, chatting, exploring and having one of those unexpectedly good days.
The Joy of Saying Yes
I think sometimes we say no to experiences before we’ve even given them a chance.
I don’t know those people.
I don’t know what the plans are.
Maybe it’ll be awkward.
Maybe I should just stay home.
And honestly? Sometimes staying home is exactly what you need.
But other times, the only thing standing between you and a really good memory is the decision to just go.
That’s what I loved most about this little adventure. I didn’t know exactly what the day would look like when I said yes. I just knew I was open to finding out.
And look at me now — writing about it as one of my little side quests.
So, if you’ve been waiting for a sign to accept the random invitation, try the new restaurant, join the group outing, take the road trip or explore somewhere you’ve never been…
This is your sign.
Say yes when it feels right. Get out of your routine. Meet the new people. Take the little adventure.
You never know when a random invitation might turn into a ridiculously good day.
And Fish Dunn Falls? Definitely one for the adventure list.
