There are some events that quietly become part of your summer traditions, and KGN Kitchen in Kingston Jamaica is a part of mine. It’s more than a food festival—it’s a delicious excuse to spend an afternoon wandering from booth to booth, discovering creative dishes, supporting local food businesses, and convincing yourself that one more bite is always a good idea.
First Stop: Shark Baos from 2 Island Bwoyz

Soft, pillowy bao buns wrapped around perfectly seasoned shark? It was my first time having shark and honestly it tasted like any other fish I didn’t even remember I was having shark. They were light, fluffy, and packed with flavor without being overly heavy—the perfect way to kick off the night.
Ackee Sushi from Sky Pheonix Sushi Restaurant: Jamaica Meets Japan
I’ll admit it—I was intrigued before I even took a bite and it was the best thing I had all night.
Ackee in sushi sounds like one of those combinations that could either be genius or a complete miss. Thankfully, it leaned firmly into genius. It managed to keep the familiar creamy texture of ackee while blending beautifully with the sushi elements. Unexpected? Absolutely. Worth trying? Without a doubt.

Doubles from Supers Spicy Doubles
No food festival feels complete without something delightfully messy.
The shrimp doubles were everything I wanted them to be soft bara, flavorful curried chickpeas with juicy shrimp, just enough heat, and the kind of bite that has you instinctively leaning forward so you don’t wear the toppings home, worse mi did a wear white!
Peppa Shrimp from Jabbas Peppa Shrimp: The Crowd Favorite
There always seems to be one dish everyone is talking about, and for me, it was the Peppa shrimp.
Juicy shrimp coated in a spicy, savory sauce that made licking your fingers feel socially acceptable. The heat didn’t overwhelm the flavor—it simply kept inviting you back for another bite… and another… until the container was mysteriously empty, I got this to go and made a nice Peppa Shrimp Bowl for lunch, should I put y'all on to this "girl dinner-esque" bowl? Let me know in the comments girlies.
Something to Sip… and Something to Freeze
Between all the eating, I needed a refresher, and the Passionfruit Spritz from Select Brands was exactly that. Bright, bubbly, fruity, and refreshing enough to reset my palate before diving into the next booth.

Then came the Mango Tajin Boozy Popsicle from Lady Bee's Mixology—a summer essential disguised as dessert. Equal parts cocktail and frozen treat, it was the perfect way to cool down while strolling through the festival. Honestly, I wouldn’t be upset if these became a permanent fixture at every outdoor event.
Why I Keep Coming Back
What I love most about KGN Kitchen isn’t just the food—it’s the atmosphere. From the aesthetic decor to the entertainment and every booth offers something different, every vendor has a story to tell through their dishes, and every visit feels like an opportunity to discover a new favorite.

It’s the kind of event where you arrive with a plan, immediately abandon it after spotting something delicious, and leave already thinking about what you’ll try next year.
Final Bite
If you’re looking for an event that celebrates Jamaica’s growing food scene, KGN Kitchen deserves a place on your summer bucket list. Come hungry, wear comfortable shoes, pace yourself, and don’t be afraid to order the dish that sounds a little unusual—it might just end up being the highlight of your day.

Until next bite!
Whimsically, Vanessa
