Hopeless by Elsie Silver Book Review | The Bookish Whim
I’ve never been more driven to do something like I am to write a book review on Hopeless by Elsie Silver. So here goes my first ever book review:
This book has easily become my favorite romance novel of all my reads, and I’ve read some good ones.
Set in the small-town universe of Chestnut Springs stands the last book in the series with main characters Beau, a heroic army vet returning home injured and broken from his tour and Bailey a piranha of the town by extension of her broken family.
The two cross paths as Beau stumbles in the bar Bailey works in as he aims to drown his sorrows but instead becomes instantly infatuated with Bailey’s raw and real energy and beauty. I’m not going to spoil it for you but I mean maybe you’re expecting it, this is a book review after all but I’d really love for you to read this and I’m so jealous of people who get to read this for the first time.
It’s on the book's blurb that Beau makes an offer to get engaged to Bailey so the town can be more accepting of her and she can get job opportunities to save up to leave as she would be an Eaton in waiting lol. But I knew from the start that Beau had feelings for her from the first day he walked in her bar.
What I loved about the novel was the chemistry between the two. I don’t have a problem with age gap relationships and even though Beau was much older Bailey was written in a way that her rough upbringing matured her, and you easily forgot her age.
The spice! I love me a lil spice sometimes I even love me a dark romance level of spice. But the way Beau Eaton had to control himself to not tear Bailey up because he was protecting her obvious lack of innocence, baby!
Putting my perversion aside I loved the way he protected her. As a hyper independent girlie myself seeing that man jump through hoops like it was nothing to make sure she was okay was beautiful.
Also, I’m a sucker for his and her povs so that made it even better seeing their internal monologues as the tensions rose between them.
My only complaint is that I would’ve wanted to see more drama between her family / father and Beau. Give me some GI Joe fighting or a bigger clash. It seemed like a missed opportunity in my view. But all in all 10/10 definitely read this as I instantly ordered book 1-3 in the series and I will be circling back to reading this book again.
